  1. Here is my position – and proposal – on gun control:

    – assault weapons should not be allowed to anyone outside of the military, police and other security forces;
    – ordinary citizens who do not have a criminal record should be allowed to carry only handguns, but not to simply buy them at a shop like any other commodity; before the purchase (or the procurement in some other way, such as gift), they should fulfill the following requirements:
    a) undergo psychiatric evaluation to make sure the potential gun-owner is mentally stable;
    b) attend a proper training course in gun-handling, organized by the local police department;
    Only after one has successfully completed these steps, he or she would be given the licence to carry a handgun. In addition, a national database with relevant information about all gun owners and their weapons should be created in order to make it easier for the authorities to investigate crimes where legally owned weapons have been used for an illegal purpose (i.e. anything other than self-defense and protection of one’s own family or property, as well as of other innocent people when attacked by an offender).
